CHR Segmentation (June 1998)
Coleman Insights released this study in June 1998 in a presentation at the Radio & Records Convention '98. Much like a predecessor--our Alternative Music Clusters: Defining the Boundaries of the Format study, released in September 1997--its goal was to provide an updated, national assessment of the state of a major radio format's music. Specifically, it identified various styles of music within and just beyond the CHR music spectrum, provided an understanding of how those styles may and may not work together and determined the CHR format’s level of "ownership" of each of those sounds.

While much has changed in the world of CHR music since the report's publication, it continues to serve as an excellent example of how the cluster analysis techniques Coleman Insights employs in its FACT Strategic Music Tests provide tremendous insights into listener tastes.  Click here to get your free copy.
